Berlin Klassiker Roll
₹140Meat, sauce and vegetables in a roll.
Non-vegetarianA new shawarma experience
Berlin took the shawarma idea and refined it: toasted flatbread, crisp fresh salad, layered sauces and meat carved from the spit. Every element in balance. We brought that craft to Calicut, and it is why we serve the best shawarma in Calicut.
What makes it different
Generous by design. More meat, more salad, more of everything than an ordinary shawarma, so one order is a proper meal, not a snack. You will feel the difference the moment it is in your hands.
Crisp lettuce, shredded cabbage, ripe tomato and red onion, piled generously. Cool, bright crunch to balance the warmth of the meat.
Our own house masala, worked deep into the chicken and turned golden and smoky on the spit. Then our creamy and spiced sauces, layered through every level rather than poured on top. Together, they are the taste people come back for.
Side by side
You know the shawarma on every corner. Ours is bigger, fuller and made the BDK way. Here is the difference.
| Aspect | Ordinary shawarma | BDK shawarma |
|---|---|---|
| The portion | A light, snack-sized roll that leaves you wanting more | Noticeably bigger: more meat, more salad, more of everything. A full meal in one order |
| The meat | A thin layer, sliced ahead and left waiting | A generous helping, carved from the spit when you order |
| The masala | A standard ready-made spice mix | Our own house masala, worked deep into the chicken |
| The bread | Thin bread, rolled tight | Thick flatbread, toasted and opened into a pocket that holds more |
| The salad | A little cabbage and pickle | Piled high with fresh lettuce, cabbage, tomato and onion |
| The sauces | One garlic sauce | Several house sauces, creamy and spiced, layered throughout |
| The experience | A quick snack | A filling meal in your hands, with contrast in every bite |

They are close relatives. Both use meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie and sliced thin. Shawarma is usually rolled in thin bread with garlic sauce, while Berlin-style doner is typically served in a thicker flatbread with more salad and several sauces. Recipes vary from shop to shop.
Doner in bread became one of Berlin’s best-known street foods in the early 1970s, when cooks in the city’s Turkish community began serving it in flatbread with salad and sauce. Several Berlin cooks have been credited with the idea.
